Visual relief

The Listin Diario points out that there is some good news regarding the 2004 election campaign. Contrary to past years, at least in Santo Domingo, residents have not been subject to the bombardment of visual propaganda that in previous elections had littered the city. This year, efforts of the city government of Santo Domingo have been effective and political parties have been adhering to regulations regarding where to place the propaganda. Trees, public and private property and the Colonial City have been spared this year from the usual barrage of posters. The Listin reports that Mayor Roberto Salcedo’s municipal government has been removing a daily average of 10 prohibited signs, by applying Ruling 4699 on external publicity of the city government. Mayor Salcedo expressed his pleasure that all political parties have been respecting the municipal rules against visual contamination.
