Reports in today?s Listin Diario and Diario Libre relay that the Paris Club appears disinclined to sweet-talk the Dominican Republic during the renegotiations of the foreign debt. Diario Libre says that the creditors will insist on ?a long-lasting fiscal effort.? The Listin Diario says that the demands of the Paris Club are ?complicating? the talks. Technical Secretary to the Presidency Carlos Despradel told reporters that the new demands from Paris require the Dominican Republic to renegotiate its foreign debt with private creditors, which would cause difficulties. John Bowler, the Intelligence Unit of The Economist?s regional director for Latin America, told reporters that the creditors will insist on a strict and prolonged fiscal effort.
