Five Dominican boxers have earned the right to compete in the Olympic Games that open in Athens, Greece this coming 4 August. Juan Carlos Payano (51 kilos), Felix Manuel Guzman (60 kilos), Isidro Mosquea (64 kilos), Juan Ubaldo Cabrera (75 kilos) and 17-year-old Argenis Mendez (54 kilos). Mendez was the last to qualify, winning his slot during the boxing trials held in Rio de Janeiro last week. For the Sydney Olympics, only two boxers had qualified.
