OAS wants trial run

The Organization of American States? electoral advisor in the Dominican Republic, Santiago Murray, is suggesting that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) hold a simulation in the presence of observers of the procedures for computing the data gathered during an election. The idea would be to see if any of the observers can detect any vulnerability within the system. Murray presented his case before the judges of the JCE yesterday and proposed that the JCE hold the simulation as soon as the new equipment and software are installed. The OAS will provide six technicians for the trial. Murray, the special advisor of the Unit for the Promotion of Democracy of the OAS, told reporters that such trial runs are standard practice in all the countries where the OAS participates as observers. Problems that show up in the test run can be eliminated prior to the election. According to the Listin Diario, few international organizations have confirmed their participation as observers for the upcoming elections.
