Flea market is packed

Dominicans from all walks of life are flocking to the flea market on Luperon Avenue to help ?stretch their pennies,? as reported in Hoy newspaper over the weekend. The attraction is comprised, of course, of lower prices than the main-line stores downtown or in the malls. All kinds of vehicles can be seen along the avenue, and parking there has become scarce. Years ago, the flea market was usually visited by people from the lower economic strata, looking for bargains. Not anymore; people from as far away as San Cristobal and the furthermost reaches of Santo Domingo are flocking to Luperon Avenue. A resident of Herrera told Hoy reporter Tania Hidalgo that ?it is important to try and find a way out of the current economic situation by making every penny count?? Regulars at the flea market told the reporter that even though the prices are lower than those in the stores, they have gone up over the past few weeks.
