The Administracion de Bienes Nacionales, the government department that oversees government property, announced that more than 250,000 families that had illegally occupied state property and private properties have received their property titles and vouchers worth RD$100,000. The property certificates were issued by the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), the State Sugar Council (CEA) and the Bienes Nacionales administration itself. The delivery of the titles to the families was executed as per Decree 784-03 issued by President Mejia. The RD$100,000 advance voucher to be applied to debts on government property built by the state is backed by Decree 452-2000, also issued by President Mejia. This program benefits people residing in 51 government-built housing projects. Of the titles distributed by Bienes Nacionales, 60% were for property owned by the state and 40% for private property.
