On Saturday, Dominican runner Felix ?Super? Sanchez, a two-time world champion of the 400 meter hurdles, was humbled by his countryman and running mate Carlos Yohelin Santa, and finished fourth behind Santa, Otis Harris, the pre-race favorite, and Trinidadian Ato Modibo. The race time was a new personal best for Santa at 45:35. The Dominican 4 x 100 relay team won their event in 39:60 and Fior Vasquez won the gold in the women?s shot put. The United States delegation won seven gold, five silver and four bronze to win the over-all championship in this first Grand Prix event held in Santo Domingo. The Dominican Republic with three gold was second, followed by Jamaica.
