Dominican mangos are preparing to conquer new export markets. The First Dominican Mango Cluster that units producers and processors for improved competitiveness was announced yesterday. Top among its objectives is to guide the DR to become a leading exporter in the Central American and Caribbean market within the next 10 years. Furthermore, the cluster seeks to develop high quality mangos that would appeal to ethnic markets in Europe and the United States. The cluster feels Dominican expatriates would be especially interested in biting into a Banilejo mango while abroad. As reported in Diario Libre, the DR exported 1,700 tons of mangos last year and 2,100 tons of organic mangos. The country produces about 50,000 tons of mangos a year.
