New voters

There will be 372,825 new voters for the upcoming elections. Slightly over half
of them are women, and nearly two-thirds of reside in urban areas. The JCE
detected 61,371 individuals on the voting rolls who were underage, but who would
be 18 by the time of the election. The personal identity and voter registration
cards known as ?c?dulas? will be available until this Friday, 14 May. An
interesting statistic is the breakdown of the electorate by age. Voters over 40
years of age number 2,131,743 (42.5%), while the 25-40 age segment counts
2,089,946 voters (42%). The 18-25 age segment accounts for 799,014 voters
(15.5%).
