The American Chamber of Commerce issued a statement protesting the move to expedite the Sectoral Protected Areas Bill through the Chamber of Deputies. The bill was approved in less than one week and ?without the due research that was called for because of the environmental, social and impact that the modifications will bring,? stated the organization. William Malamud, as vice-president of the local branch of the business coalition, said that on 30 April they had sent Chamber of Deputies president Alfredo Pacheco a letter requesting the postponement of the bill until it could be debated by experts.
