CONEP visits Mejia

Yesterday dozens of people visited the Presidential Palace to commiserate with or congratulate President Mejia. Among them was a delegation from the CONEP, the National Council of Private Business, which was headed by the group?s leader, Elena Viyella de Paliza, an oftentimes opponent of the President and the object of some of his most pointed barbs. ?Elenita,? as Mejia often called her, met with the President at his office and offered the collaboration of the business community during the present transition period. Never at a loss for words, Viyella de Paliza told reporters that she and her fellow CONEP executives had commended the President for his noble gesture on election night, ?above all, for the message it sent to the Dominican people.? Carlos Guillermo Leon, Franklyn Baez Brugal, Luis Molina Achecar, Irving Redondo, Rafael del Toro, Campos de Moya, Francisco Garcia and Francisco Jose Castillo made up the rest of the CONEP delegation that requested that government and opposition members work together on economic policies that will guard the country?s interests during until the governmental changeover.
