President Mejia has delegated to President-elect Fernandez the representation of the Dominican Republic at the Third European Union Latin American Summit meeting to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico at the end of this month. President Mejia communicated his decision directly to Santiago Murray, the chief observer for the OAS.
Murray, on the other hand, praised Mejia for his early recognition of the PRD defeat in the 16 May election. Murray called the gesture ?unusual in the time we have been observing elections?.? The OAS ambassador said he thought that Mejia had sent a message to the rest of Latin America and the Western Hemisphere as to how politics are conducted in the Dominican Republic.
