Gasoline prices hit record highs; fares go up

Gasoline and diesel prices, which reached historic highs on Saturday, will force new increases in bus, taxi and public car (carro publico) fares. The National Central (Union) of Unified Transporters (CNTU) announced that as of today the fares for intercity transport would rise. On Saturday, the government increased premium gasoline by RD$9.70, regular gasoline by RD$9.30 and diesel by RD$4.60 a gallon. The prices per gallon will now stand as follows: premium gasoline, RD$109.90, regular gasoline, RD$100.50, and diesel fuel, RD$69.60. Propane gas will continue to sell for RD$25 a gallon. The CNTU denounced the fact that the government still receives RD$22.15 for each gallon of gasoline sold. In Hoy newspaper, Llennis Jimenez reports that the FENATRANO syndicate will join the CNTU syndicate and similarly up their fares.
