Some of the world?s best kiteboarders will be in Cabarete for the Bestkiteboarding World Cup that will take place 14-20 June. The event is part of the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association circuit and there will be US$36,000 in prize money, and the Bestkiteboard.com cup. Making matters better, nightly evening parties are planned along the Cabarete strip. Steve Santagati, host of the US television program, Bachelorrette, will be the event?s announcer. Some 70 men have registered, and 25 female athletes. Competitors are expected from Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Denmark, Switzerland, Brazil, the US, Sweden, France, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Jamaica, Mexico, Spain, Japan, Russia, Guadaloupe, Martinique, Argentina, Germany, Polland, Canada, India and the Dominican Republic. The top 24 world-ranked competitors are expected. There will be two days of qualifying rounds.
Xiomara Desimone, speaking for the Sosua and Cabarete hotels and restaurants said the event will be televised and should reach an audience of 300,000 fans worldwide.
This is the third year of the event. Previous competitions were held in Austria and Belgium. Lorenzo Sancassani, president of the organizing committee for the event, said that Cabarete is world known as one of the coastal areas with the best conditions to practice this sport.
