Two local TV talk shows (broadcast on Channel 11 and Telesistema) raised a sum of RD$23 million to rebuild the homes of 200 flood victims in the Jimani disaster area. ?El Dia? and ?De Medio a Medio,? produced by journalist Huchi Lora, launched the campaign titled ?A Little House for Jimani,? receiving on the first day alone enough donations to build 120 homes. On a second round on Monday, they had reached their goal of 200 homes by 9am. The dwellings will be made of blocks with cement floors, zinc roofs and pine-wood doors. They will have electricity and plumbing installations. Each will have two bedrooms, a dining-room living room, kitchen and bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.
Lora explained that the dwellings will be built at that cost because they have also received numerous donations of bocks, steel rods, zinc, paint and other building materials.
Major destruction occurred in the area after more rain fell over a two-day period than in an entire month.
