Hundreds of houses for Jimani

National and international solidarity is making it possible to build new dwellings for 900 families that lost their homes during the floods of Jimani and surrounding barrios, near the border with Haiti. El Caribe reports that Sur Futuro, the organization that helps development in the southwest will undertake the construction of 100; Barrio Solidaridad fostered by journalist Huchi Lora and Monsignor Agripino Nunez is responsible for 200 new homes. Dominican baseball players have contributed money for another 300 houses. This in addition to 200 homes the government has promised to build through the National Institute of Housing (INVI), as announced by President Hipolito Mejia. These totals do not take into account individual contributions to the construction projects for those who lost everything during the floods that tore through the town at 2:30am on Monday, 23 May. The new dwellings are expected to be ready later this year.
