A Dominican-Italian was voted Miss Universe Italy on 10 June. Maria Teresa Francville Dominguez, at age 17, is the daughter of a Dominican mother and Italian father. She is the second Miss Universe representative from Italy. In 1996, the Italians chose Denny Mendez as their Miss Italy, who went on to become one of the six finalists of the 1997 contest. Francville will represent Italy in the June 2005 Miss Universe contest. She competed in the event representing the region of Liguria and the city of Genova.
