President-elect Leonel Fernanez and former US President William Jefferson Clinton met for 45 minutes at the Plaza Millennium Hotel in New York City. According to statements from the Dominican President-to-be, Clinton will use his contacts in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to promote investment in the Dominican Republic. As reported in El Caribe, Fernandez said that Clinton would be traveling as soon as possible to the DR with a group of potential investors. In addition, Clinton promised to use his resources to search out alternative energy sources such as aeolic and solar energy.
