President Hipolito Mejia said yesterday that he would send the tax proposals announced by the PLD economic team to the Congress for approval. Mejia said that as soon as the PLD proposal is in his hands he will forward it to Congress as part of his obligations with the IMF. As reported in the Diario Libre, Mejia feels that although the legislation should be agreed upon by all parties, he is obliged to present it to the legislative body. Appearing on the weekly television program ?Once a week? that is broadcast by the government-run Channel 4, Mejia said that the best thing was for the PLD to work with the data that his government had given them, and establish a tax proposal free of any political ties or obligations, which should be handed to the President to be sent to Congress. Mejia said that he had not decided to which of the two chambers he would send the reform proposals.
