Speaking on behalf of the PRD faction led by Hatuey Decamps, Henry Mejia declared that President-elect Leonel Fernandez could count on the support of the PRD splinter group that opposed the re-election of Hipolito Mejia, in the name of good governance. He said that during a three-hour meeting between Fernandez and a commission of deputies, senators and PRD party leaders, the group advocated the need for consensus between government and the opposition party. Speaking on the ?Matinal? morning program, and as reported in El Caribe, Henry Mejia denied that Decamps? followers would be included in the incoming administration, and reiterated that they are focused instead on restructuring their own PRD party. The functionary similarly rejected the notion that the ousted PRD party president would lead his group to join the ranks of another political party, stating no decision would be made until the PRD organization had set a date for its members to convene. He supported the idea of holding two party conferences, one in which to analyze the causes of the party?s rupture and a second in which to elect its new leaders. Those PRD members who backed re-election for Hipolito Mejia, better known as the PPH, have a set a date in November to assemble.
Meanwhile, the government-intervened Listin Diario carries a headline that says President Hipolito Mejia will strive to reach an understanding with his detractors, Hatuey Decamps among them.
