A special mission from the Interamerican Development Bank arrives today to revise the modernization programs being implemented through the DR?s Congress and the Chamber of Accounts with IDB funding. Senator Tonty Rutinel (PRD-Santo Domingo) recently accused the board of the Chamber of Accounts of serious irregularities in the management of the funds of an IDB-financed modernization program. Furthermore, the senator said that, despite increasing its personnel from 50 to 600, the Chamber of Accounts, whose role it is to audit government fund management, has only performed 49 of the 3,000 audits that should have been conducted on government departments and institutions. Senator Rutinel said that the confirmation of the irregularities would bring about the suspension of the program. According to Hoy newspaper, the program is worth US$28 million. Rutinel said that the country will lose if the program is suspended due to irregularities in money management.
