Four parties lose recognition

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has cancelled the official status of four parties that participated in last May?s elections but did not obtain a sufficient number of votes. At the same time, the JCE announced it would submit a proposal for a law to oversee these types of political organizations. Luis Arias, the chief justice of the JCE, told reporters from Hoy that the Fuerza de la Revolucion (FR), the Nueva Alternativa (PNA), the Movimiento de Solaridad Nacional (MSN) and the Partido por la Autentica Democracia (PAD) lost their accreditation because of paltry voter support. Several other small parties maintained their official status for backing one of the candidates of the three leading parties.

In another decision made by the JCE yesterday, members were given ?discretionary powers? to recommend temporary personnel that had just been cancelled for other, permanent, jobs at the JCE. Of the 200 temporary employees of the JCE, only 15 had their posts confirmed.
