President Hipolito Mejia was adamant in stating he would submit the tax reform proposals to Congress and turnover the lands of the Herrera Airport to the new owners on 9 July. Appearing on the weekly television series “Una vez a la semana,” the President said the tax proposals would include a salary increase for the legislature and that he would see that the state creditors got the lands of the Herrera airport as payment for the construction of the Duarte Highway. Mejia said that while he is expecting a PLD proposal, he supposed that his administration’s successors were waiting for President-elect Leonel Fernandez’ return from overseas before sending the package to him. President Mejia said that when the PLD hands him their tax proposals he will forward them to Congress without changing a thing, leaving it up to the various parties to come to an agreement of some sort.
