The case against Radhames Ramos Garcia, the PRD deputy for La Vega who is charged with the trafficking of 16 Chinese trying to reach the US by entering the DR via Haiti, has once again been delayed. Ramos Garcia was using his former consular position in Haiti when he allegedly brought the illegal migrants to the DR. The case is being heard by the Supreme Court of Justice owing to Ramos Garcia?s privileged status as a legislator. Hoy newspaper reports that the case, pending since 2002, has been rescheduled again for 1 September. Supreme Court of Justice leader Jorge Subero Isa has complained that the Supreme Court has not been capable of tackling touchy corruption cases in government.
