Fernandez in Spain

President-elect Leonel Fernandez met with Spanish President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero in the Palacio de la Moncloa in Madrid yesterday. According to a release from the PLD press office, the Spanish leader expressed his support for Dominican Republic infrastructure works and education, health and culture programs. President-elect Fernandez is currently on a tour of Europe to promote investment in the Dominican Republic. During his stay in Spain, he also met with former President Jose Maria Aznar at the Fundacion para el Analisis y los Estudios Sociales (FAES), presided over by the former Spanish governor. The body is dedicated to political, economic, social and institutional educational programs.
As reported, Fernandez also met with the Spanish Minister of Industry, Tourism & Commerce Jose Montilla Aguilera.
Fernandez continues on to Bilbao and San Sebastian today, where he will meet tourism executives. He then travels to Valencia.
During his visit he has already met with the president of the government of the Islas Baleares, Jaume Matas I Palou, who committed to help his incoming administration develop sustainable tourism. Fernandez has also received the cooperation of the president of the Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, for various cultural programs.
