Athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will compete in the Hispaniola Lowenbrau marathon (21 kilometers) on 7 August. Some 250 athletes have registered for the event now in its ninth year. Among those expected are several international athletes and prize money equaling RD$300,000 for the competitors, including a RD$62,000 first-place prize. The runners start at Km0 of the Mirador del Sur Park. This year, the organizers have included age categories for runners 45-49 and 50+ in men, and 40-49 and 50+ in women, as well as competitions for those in wheel chairs. A RD$100 registration fee is collected from all participants and can be paid at the booth at the Mirador del Sur on 5-6 August from 6 to 8pm, or before the race on 7 August. Lowenbrau malt beer is distributed by Cerveceria Nacional Dominicana, brewers of Presidente beer.
