Some 1,000 athletes are expected for the X Central American and Caribbean University Games, scheduled to open at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) this Friday, 30 July. The games will continue through 6 August. The state university is the organizer of the event, in conjunction with the Central American and Caribbean University Sport Organization (ODUCC) and the local Sport University Union (UDU).
Teams are expected to participate from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, US Virgin Islands, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Netherlands Antilles, Barbados, Guatemala, Venezuela, Haiti, Colombia and Dominican Republic.
Competitions will take place in track and field, basketball, baseball, football, tae kwon do, karate, judo, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
For the Dominican Republic, athletes representing the UASD, UNICA, UTRESA, UNAPEC, UNIBE, PUCMM and INTEC universities will compete.
