The Dominican Air Force has just received four new helicopters of a group of 12 purchased with a US$72-million loan contracted by the Dominican Air Force. The UH1-2, UH-58 and two Shweizer helicopters were received yesterday by the chief of the Air Force, Mayor General Virgilio Sierra Perez, as reported in Hoy. The loan was granted by Eximbank of the United States, and brokered by Dominican contractor Daniel Mejia. The helicopters were purchased as part of the Program to Reform and Modernize the Armed Forces.
The purchase of the helicopters was made thanks to the support of the US government. Eximbank is a US government financial agency that promotes the trade of US goods and services through financing. The institution assumes credit and country risks the private sector is unable or unwilling to accept.
