Mejia washes his hands from tax reform

President Hipolito Mejia has disengaged himself from discussions regarding the tax reform bill. Speaking from San Francisco de Macoris, Mejia said that, while he is open to dialogue, the ball is now in Fernandez?s court. The outgoing President said he would not participate in any of the negotiations regarding the controversial bill. ?Leonel is the one who has to work hard now on that vaina [thing],? he told the press. ?He has to do it, not me,? he added. Upon resuming the IMF agreement earlier this year, the Mejia administration had committed itself to present the bill to Congress and seek its approval. The Mejia PRD-PPH faction holds the majority in Congress.
