AmCham backs DRFTA

The American Chamber of Commerce has come out in favor of the free trade agreement with the United States. ?The FTA represents opportunities for an increased flow of foreign investment, an increase in export production and more direct presence in the world?s largest consumer market, as well as opportunities to consolidate and diversify the productive base of the industrial free zones,? states the business group in a press release.

AmCham points out that the treaty limits itself to extending to the long range what it perceives to be greater and more beneficial economic, social and cultural integration of the United States and the Dominican Republic, guaranteeing improved access to the US markets than the country has at present under the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act. ?The Chamber believes firmly that the free trade agreement negotiated with the US not only will help, but will require that our country make the necessary changes so that the private sector may become more competitive while promoting greater institutionalism and transparency within the State.?
