More loans passed in Congress

At the request of President Hipolito Mejia, the Chamber of Deputies approved three loans on Saturday worth US$23.4 million. Of this amount, US$3.8 million is designated to purchase apparel for the Armed Forces and US$9.6 million to purchase spare parts for Armed Forces vehicles. The remaining US$10 million is earmarked for the purchase of fire trucks for the Santo Domingo Firefighters. The financing was granted by the dubiously-regarded Riogersa company, with a Spanish address, that has been responsible for acceding many other foreign loans during the Mejia government.
