Super Sanchez does it again

Scoring his second best time of the year, Dominican track athlete Felix Sanchez won his 400-meter hurdle event for the 39th consecutive time. Sanchez is the Dominican Republic?s chance for a gold medal in the August 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

This latest victory means that Sanchez is well on his way to winning the TDK Golden League, a US$1-million jackpot in gold bullion that goes to the runner who wins all six races in various venues across Europe. Sanchez has thus far won in Bergen, Norway; Rome, Italy; and now Saint Denis, France. Next up for the man lovingly known as ?Super Sanchez? are the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and the renewal of the TDK Golden League series that will begin in Zurich, Switzerland, continue on to Belgium and wind up in Berlin, Germany. Other track-and-field athletes pursuing the golden ingots are Virgilijus Alakna in the discus event, Lithuanian triple-jumper Christian Olssen, and South African high-jumper Hestrie Cloetie. US Olympian Maurice Green lost the 100-meter sprint at Saint Denis and is now out of the TDK Golden League running. For more information, see: http://www.iaaf.org/GLE04/news/Kind=2/newsId=26412.html
