From her bed in the Center for Plastic Surgery and Specialists, Larissa del Mar (Larimar) Fiallo, told of her encounter yesterday with two alleged would-be kidnappers. Fiallo has accused the watchman stationed in the parking garage of Plaza Lama of having collaborated with her attackers. She told reporters that she clearly saw that the guard was totally unresponsive to her assault. As she warned fellow women to keep their guard up, Fiallo said she was distracted at the time of her attack by the use of her cell phone and was in surroundings she felt were safe. The 21-year-old beauty queen said that martial arts helped her defend herself at the crucial moment. As she emerged from a beauty salon in the plaza while speaking to a friend on her phone, a man approached her with a Dominican flag which he threw over her head. As she fought off her aggressor, Larimar said her resistance provoked the man to start pummeling her and for the other man to join in. One said: ?Let?s take the b*tch? we can?t leave her here.? A combination of Fiallo?s struggles and her assailant?s inexperience, in her opinion, forced them to leave her on the floor as they sped away in a dark-colored Toyota Corolla. As she lay there, Fiallo saw the watchman standing motionless, not even calling for help. The victim was helped by her friend Jeimy Hernandez, the owner of the salon. Miss DR urged all Dominican women to be extra careful during this era of criminal violence that is somewhat new to Dominican streets. A press conference is scheduled for this morning.
