Armed Forces Minister Lieutenant General Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez sent a memorandum to the Director of Immigration telling him that members of the Tarea Quisqueya force that served in Iraq will not be allowed to travel without special official permission. All immigration offices at the airports and ports of the Dominican Republic have received copies of the document. El Caribe reports that immigration officials are required to arrest any member of the armed forces or police who present a passport for travel without this special authorization. Only the Armed Forces Minister is permitted to issue the special travel permit. The memorandum is dated 2 August and signed by Soto Jimenez. El Caribe says the decision was made after two officers, one from the Navy and one from the National Police, supposedly sold their passports, which contained European entry visas, to two individuals who were arrested when they attempted to use the modified documents. The two are being still detained by the Intelligence Department of the armed forces.
