Dr William Jana Tactuk, the director of the Dominican Institute of Social Security (IDSS), says that individuals at the Finance Ministry are demanding he deliver 20% of the RD$100-million allotment that President Hipolito Mejia authorized to pay the wages of IDSS physicians and employees. Jana, who has been at the helm of the IDSS since his appointment at the start of the Mejia administration, upholds that President Mejia is responsible for 11,000 physicians, nurses and staff members of the 23 IDSS hospitals, who have not been paid their July wages. Jana has stated that the IDSS system has collapsed. He did not explain to reporters in Hoy newspaper that carried the story why he is being asked to return the money.
