Mini-Summit

A heads of government and state summit is being planned on occasion of the convergence in Santo Domingo of several leaders attending Leonel Fernandez?s Presidential inauguration. Felix Jimenez, in charge of protocol for the inaugural ceremonies, said that presidents and prime ministers of the Americas and the Caribbean would participate in what is being described as a mini-summit to discuss foreign debt, poverty and the economic situation. He said the event will take place on Tuesday, 17 August from 10am to 12:30pm. A declaration will be issued upon the meeting?s end. Expected to attend are Inacio Lula da Silva (Brazil), Jorge Batlle (Uruguay), Abel Pacheo de la Espriella (Costa Rica), Ricardo Maduro (Honduras), Mireya Moscoso (Panama), Alvaro Uribe (Colombia), Oscar Berger Perdomo (Guatemala), Enrique Bolanos Geyer (Nicaragua), Prince Felipe of Asturias, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo (Equatorial Guinea), Boniface Alexandre (Haiti), Prime Minister Yu Shyi Kun (Taiwan), Said Musa (Belize), Vice-President Wesley Johnson (Liberia), and Prime Minister Etienne Nestor (Netherlands Antilles), as reported in Hoy newspaper. Also attending the inaugural will be Sila Calderon, Governor of Puerto Rico.
