New law for political party primaries

Perhaps the last legislation ratified by former President Hipolito Mejia, the political parties? primaries law, transfers to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) the power to intervene in the internal primaries of political party organizations. The law of the primaries that was passed on Sunday, after being swiftly moved through Congress, establishes that political parties must hold their primaries with the universal, direct and secret ballot, with the participation of all eligible voters. As endorsed, the new law appears to open the election of the candidates of individual parties to all voting members from all parties. The law establishes that the JCE will oversee, in coordination with the political parties, the internal primaries, to guarantee and make transparent the selection of the candidates. The law also establishes that the primaries must be held no later than four months prior to the nationwide election. The law applies to congressional, municipal and presidential elections. The bill was submitted to congress by PRD Senator Sucre Munoz.
