Automating ID documents

The Consorcio SOMO (Soluciones Modernas) publishes a paid advertisement today confirming the winner of a tender called to automate the issuance of birth certificates, ID cards (cedulas) and voting cards. The new systems to be implemented will also permit electronic voting using biometric technology. The companies to participate are: Softek (www.softekpr.com), Samurai (www.samurai.com.br), Soinca, Microsoft (www.microsoft.com), Datacard Group (www.datacard.com), Print Shop (www.tarjetaplastica.com), Diebold Procomp (www.procomp.com.br), Omnitech, Gieseke & Devrient (www.gyd.com), Hewlett Packard (www.hp.com) and Identico. In addition, Eximbank of the US government and Bandes of Brazil will grant the loans to finance the project at a cost of US$58.6 million.

The company promises to implement the project in 275 days.
