Go-ahead for Sans Souci/Malecon projects

President Leonel Fernandez granted a power of attorney to Public Works Minister Freddy Perez to discuss and approve the implementation of a mega-port tourism complex for the Sans Souci, the Eugenio Maria de Hostos park and the tourist terminal at Don Diego. The plans call for the construction of residential real estate, a marina, a yacht club, and duty-free shopping areas, with an investment of US$300 million. Companies favored with 10-year contracts or concessions, whose terms may be extended to 40 years, are Guayacanes SA, Diconfo, C por A, Olcox, C por A and Condico SA. In its report on the presidential instruction, the Listin Diario says that the names of the executives of the companies are not divulged in the power of attorney. The newspaper says that the mega-project was described as one that would integrate the existing infrastructure in the colonial city.

It also calls for the construction of two hotels, a convention center and residential complex in the Sans Souci naval port area.
