Carlos Pena of the Detroit Tigers told the Listin Diario that with all due respect to Major League Baseball, the brand of ball played in the Dominican Republic is the most intense. In his opinion, no game is more passionate than those played between the Aguilas Cibaenas and the Tigres del Licey. Pena himself plays for the Licey in the Dominican Republic.
“This is hot baseball, very aggressive, and you can tell the difference, especially in the intensity in which the game is played. There is an enormous difference and I tell my fellow players in Major League that if they have not played in the DR, they have never played baseball,” he said. He explained furthermore that the DR?s fans know baseball, a fact that adds to the emotion and mood of every game.
Pena said that he plays here to enjoy this great baseball and to work hard. He is working on reducing the number of times he strikes out and improving his on-base average.
The regular season is in its final weeks, with several Major League Dominican players joining their teams to ensure their team be one of the four of six making it to the January round robin games.
