Fernandez on his first 100 days

In his address to the nation on the occasion of his first 100 days in government, President Leonel Fernandez said that the energy crisis and increased crime were the two prime challenges his government must confront. He said that the government has made available RD$3 billion in payments to improve the power service. Fernandez said that adequate coordination of monetary and fiscal policy so far has allowed the three main prices of the economy ? the exchange rate, interest rate and inflation rate ? to drop. He referred to this as a testimony to the success of his administration’s economic policy so far.

President Fernandez also spoke of the need to strengthen government institutions, fight corruption and create effective mechanisms that enable the implementation of the civil service law to avoid the anarchy that changes in government often create.

In his talk, President Fernandez highlighted that his principal achievement so far was regaining the confidence of the economic agents in the country and abroad. He said the spectacular appreciation of the peso, the decline in inflation and reductions in prices of basic items also contributed to a renewed feeling of confidence. The Dominican President also had words of appreciation for the collaboration of Congress, businesspeople, labor unions, religious groups, civil society, the press and government employees.
