New arrest in drug case

Eleuterio Guante, a.k.a. Pedro Guante, is the name of the fourth person to be arrested in the case of the 1,387 kilograms of cocaine that were seized by local DNCD agents on 18 December. The district attorney for Santo Domingo, Jose Manuel Hernandez, told Hoy reporters that Guante’s job was to organize the transport of the merchandise. Today the DA will request remand to Najayo prison and an impediment on leaving the country. Currently Guante is being held at the DNCD headquarters for questioning. Hernandez told reporters that the suspect had held phone conversations with the previously arrested Quirino Paulino Castillo about the cocaine. Judge Doris Josefina Pujols, acting as the coordinating judge for the Courts of Instruction, must now appoint a judge to determine whether the evidence is sufficient to remand the prisoner to Najayo or allow him bail.
