The Superintendent of Power Francisco Mendez announced that the tender for the government-operated EdeNorte and EdeSur and AES-operated EdeEste power distribution would be postponed for after 2005. Mendez said that the plan is instead to buy time to cut fraud and increase the number of paying consumers of the EdeNorte and EdeSur power distribution units. As reported in El Caribe, the government power utility coordinator, CDEEE, has created commissions to negotiate the sale and purchase power contracts, conciliate debts with AES, and to make recommendations regarding the EdeNorte and EdeSur buyback contract signed with Union Fenosa during the past government.
