The Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court ordered the arrest of 23 Dominicans that are wanted in the United States. At the same time, the assets of the persons affected by the arrest warrants were ordered not be to seized until the persons can be identified and the assets “individualized.” With the recent arrest orders, a total of 119 Dominicans will have been extradited since 1998. The latest decree by the Supreme Court is the first since the judicial process for extradition was organized under the new Penal Code that went into effect in September of 2004. The United States representative had also requested that assets be seized, but this was rejected by the court until each asset is identified and proven to belong to a particular person. Meanwhile in the United States, the Assistant Prosecutor for the Southern District of Florida has requested the extradition of Rolando Florian Felix on charges of drug trafficking and homicide. While a lawyer for Florian said that he had not heard of the extradition request by Michael J. Mullaney, the documents that were deposited to back the request show how US Customs officials infiltrated the Florian operation and brought 247 kilograms of cocaine and seven quarts of hashish oil into the United States.
