Senate retains real estate registration bill

The president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Jorge Subero Isa said that if Congress ends its sessions without having approved the Real Estate Registration Bill, they would have to refund the money advanced for the project by the Inter-American Development Bank. He said that the IDB has advanced almost 70% of the RD$34 million project. Failure to approve this project, according to Subero, would have unimaginable consequences for the country. Subero says that the program seeks to ensure the legality of property, which is the foundation for foreign investment.

The president of the Senate, Andres Bautista Garcia said yesterday that the bill would not be passed because it violates the constitution. He said that the country needs this reform, but felt that it was not something that couldn’t wait two or three weeks, as reported in the Listin Diario.
