Health, education and security employ 59%

Most government employees work for the health, education and national security departments, according to figures just released. 58.7% of government employees belong to these three sectors. Of the 320,558 workers on the payroll at the end of September, more than 238,000 were assigned to the Ministries of the Armed Forces, Education, the Interior and the Police, and Public Health. The complete payroll, including the central government and the autonomous and de-centralized institutions reached 406,168 employees on 30 September, according to Central Bank figures. The Armed Forces totaled just 47,164 members, 14.714% of the total. The Ministry of the Interior and the Police numbered 30,426. The Ministry of Education has 112,202 employees on its books.
