The general manager of the government’s Electrical Enterprises Corporation (CDEEE), Radhames Segura, says that the press is not the right place to discuss the differences between the power distribution company AES and the government, over what they owe. Recently, Power Superintendent Francisco Mendez said that the debt figures presented by the AES are correct. As reported in Diario Libre, AES says it is owed RD$1.9 billion in subsidies and another RD$1.03 billion for power supplied to public schools and hospitals. But Segura says that their understanding is that on the contrary, AES owes the government RD$2.57 billion. He said that there are two committees made up of members of both parties, whose purpose is to have these discussions. Segura doubted that AES has had the debt approved by the Ministry of Finance because Deputy Finance Minister Magin Diaz, who participates in the CDEEE meetings, has not received this notification.
