John Jay College experts on police

Experts from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of New York City are helping the Ministry of Interior & Police to carry out a study of how better to restructure the Police so it can become effective in combating crime. In a press conference called by Interior & Police Minister Franklin Almeyda yesterday Professor Lawrence Kobilinsky said that the difficulties include the low wages paid to police officers, the bad reputation the force has for rampant corruption in the ranks, and lack of facilities to do the job. Professor Kobilinsky highlighted the lack of communications equipment and computers to make the work more efficient. Others on the team are Maria Haberfeld, Zelma Henriques, Michel Walker and Francisco Chapman. Almeyda said that as part of the agreement with the John Jay College, the government would receive advice for academic programs similar to those the college has carried out with the Puerto Rican police.
