Former President Hipolito Mejia had breakfast at the mansion of former army captain Quirino Paulino Castillo in Elias Pina on 27 March 2004, when he was in the area campaigning for his re-election, according to a report in the Listin Diario. The newspaper was under government control at the time. A New York City court has requested the extradition of Paulino for drug trafficking charges.
