The Tigres of Licey, behind big-leaguer Juan Cruz’s stellar pitching, stopped the powerful Aguilas Cibaenas offensive, winning 3-0 at a packed Quisqueya Stadium last night. Ronnie Belliard accounted for all three runs, un-earned after an error by Aguilas second baseman Felix Martinez blew a double play in the fourth inning. The error allowed Jose Herrera to reach second and Eric Byrnes to get to first. After Jose Guillen struck out, Jose Offerman managed to get a base on balls from Julian Tavarez, filling the bases. Tavarez struck out Jason Bass, but on a 3-2 count Ronnie Belliard got the hit that drove in the winning runs. While both pitchers pitched very well, Cruz limited the powerful Aguilas line-up to just three hits over seven innings. The series is now tied at 1-1, and tonight’s game is in Santiago at 7:00. Tonight’s match-up puts Jose Lima and his “Mambo Show” against Cincinnati Reds’ pitcher Ramon Ortiz. Lima, a winner at Los Angeles last year, will be going to Kansas City this year. Ortiz is considered to be one of Cincy’s top starters for 2005. The match takes place at Cibao Stadium, at 7:00pm.
